I emailed Tech 21, and they told me to try replacing an IC chip, the socket type that you can pull out to switch chips. It's labelled "MC68HC11E1CFNE3" and originally manufactured by Freescale Semiconductor, although replacement wise I was told that only the "68HC11" part matters. The chips go for about $15-$20 a piece, and fix the unit back to normal working order! Well, after a factory reset, so you lose all your presets, but at least it works! On the down side, mine blows these chips after a few hundred hours of use, so I bought a bulk lot of them and just switch them when they blow. Bit of a pain, but saves spending £600 on a new one!
Buona ricerca!
